I do not give tests! Gasp!
But Madelle, how do students show you they know history? What about the dates?
We spend most of our time diving deep into content, critically investigating the bias, and inferring how the forgotten voices of the time would react. I do not care about the specific dates. But I do want students to know the big ideas and the various eras.
A game like Timeline is very helpful to reinforce those dates, without the pressure (and subsequent knowledge dumps) of tests.
