Are your students uncomfortable speaking in the target language? Anxious? Memorizing instead of communicating? Struggling to apply what you teach to real situations? Learn low-risk, high-fluency, high-confidence strategies and activities for the A1-A2 FSL student.
We all hear about how we should be teaching in the target language. But there is so much resistance! How does our planning and practice create an environment where students are willing to engage with us when speaking French? This workshop explored how to plan learning cycles and strategies to create an environment where students feel confident, capable and safe!
Je ne conjuguerai pas, tu ne conjugueras pas, il/elle/iel ne conjuguera pas... NOUS N'AVONS PAS BESOIN CONJUGUER DES VERBES! It can be scary to let go of explicit grammar. Join us to explore the more effective implicit grammar approach in the FSL classroom.

STAFF BEST PRACTICE COMMITTEE
At my former school, I founded a Best Practice Committee with the support of my admin team and chair Joanne Lebeznick. We put together a Best Practice Committee, with myself, Joanne, our amazing admin, and the department chairs. We met and selected 4 initiatives to focus on; learning goals, rich tasks, rubrics and success criteria. The rest would have to wait. We developed a professional development schedule and brought in other teachers with areas of expertise, so present at staff meetings. The response was great! We were creating a culture of growth amongst staff. Teachers who were resistant to change were excited to share their new experiences. Teachers walked away with one tangible skill to implement in the class immediately.
Below are some of the resources that we developed to help us understand those ideas:
Examining the core principals of Growing Success, and the difference between success criteria and rubrics!
The importance of and effective use of Learning Goals!
Using the achievement charts, curriculum expectations, differentiation and authenticity to create rich tasks instead of tests!
Feeling overwhelmed with confusing messaging around assessment? What counts? How do I make it fair? Come see some key concepts laid out to help you plan rich, authentic learning!
