UNDER CONSTRUCTION! :)
This project is SO MUCH FUN! This project gives a profile of a random 25 year old adult in Canada (or sometimes I tell students it is them at twice their age). Students have a blast spinning the wheels of life (in front of the class) to determine their career, assess, DEBTS, and children! Have your students dive into responsible financial planning to get a glimpse of adult responsibilities! There are great opportunities to talk about inequity in our society, to problem solve, and to use math in a very real context. They can even form partnerships or find roommates to share expenses with other students in the class using the Connections Board!
TIPS: I make a copy for each students with just the first few slides, and a copy for the class. I only add one or two new slides at a time. We teach skills as we go. If you assign the whole thing at once, it is too overwhelming. This project requires teaching and scaffolding.
GRADES: I have done this project with grades 6-8, but it could work for high school too.
SKILLS: Pre-teaching of the following skills is recommended: place value, rounding to the hundredth, decimals, and calculation percentages (% of an amount - $1 of a total $5 is 20%, amount of a %- 20% of $5 is $1)

FIRST OPTION: PRESIDENT! Learning Geometry while playing cards! My students LOVE to play President, a card game that plays for unlimited rounds. I adapted this beloved card game to play while learning geometry terms. See these instructions on how to play PRESIDENT! The first person to play all of the cards in their hand wins the round and is named President. The second is named Vice-President, the middle player(s) are named Neutrals, the second-last is named Vice-Bum, and the last player is named Bum! So much fun!
SECOND OPTION: These could also be played like dominos! You must get rid of all your cards by placing them adjacent to the cards in play that match characteristics! Like 4 vertices could be a square or a triangular pyramid!
